Barefoot Zinfandel
Barefoot Zinfandel

Region: California
Varietal: Zinfandel
Alcohol: 13.5%
Price: $9.99
I have seen this brand of wine everywhere and I thought since we are all looking to save a few bucks that I would bring my opinion on this value red to you. Barefoot Wine is based out of Modesto, California and produces 14 different varietals, 5 of which are also produced in a bubbly form. It is basically everywhere and ranges from around $8-11 at least for the examples I have spotted. My expectations for this one aren’t high, but I have seen other consumers walk out of stores with case loads of this wine and big smiles on their faces, so who knows maybe my preconceived notions are wrong.
Out of the bottle, the color of this red is good, nice and rich with good deep dark ruby color to it. On the nose, there is a bit of spice, and heat when at 13.5% alcohol there really shouldn’t be. On the palate, this wine has a sweetness up front and bites back with an astringency that isn’t appreciated. On the second and third sips, this wine is just so fake, it wants to be complicated and have those attributes that an actual aged wine has, but it comes off so artificial and tries so hard to be something it isn’t, I almost feel embarrassed for it.
Although it is everywhere, don’t be tempted by this wine even with its insanely attractive price. It is a wolf in sheep clothing and it will no doubt leave you with a bad taste and most certainly a terrible headache in the morning. PASS
