Calgary Police Too Much?
by Ian Harding
I'm sorry, but I just had to post something regarding this.
So I was just down on 17th Ave, grabbing myself a bite to eat from a sandwich joint. Before getting onto 17th Ave, I noticed about four Parking Patrol vehicles. Neither of the drivers were really doing anything, just hanging out. I get to 17th Ave, and there are police officers EVERYWHERE. And I do mean everywhere. When I walked into Thai Tai, I had to wait in line behind SIX officers and by the time I got my sandwich and walked out, EIGHT officers had entered the place (in ADDITION to the six that were initially there).
What the hell is going on?? Does Calgary really need to have EVERY officer available on 17th Ave during playoff season?? On my way home, while standing at the street corner, I counted nine... NINE... police vans on the street. NINE!! I never see those vans anywhere else, but there were nine. I couldn't believe it. I felt like an inmate in a penitentary surrounded by officers. There were probable 2-3 officers for every civilian on the street. Even a gang of TEN officers rode by on bikes.
All I can say is... what is the point?? Someone please tell me.
