The Vicarious Crew
by Ian Harding
Here it is. The post I've been waiting to submit for over a week. Reason being, I wanted just a little more time to fix up a couple of things before informing all of you about... my project.
"And what is this "project" you speak of?" I hear you ask. Well, for those of you that follow Behind R4NT and R4NT.com, you know that I have been a little... what's a good word... miserable? No, too harsh... bored? Close, but not quite what I'm looking for... meh, anyway... I've complained about work to sum it up.
About a month ago while sitting at home, an idea came into my head. I wanted to take a trip. But not just any trip. I had no intention of spending a couple thousand dollars to fly somewhere and be pampered for a week. Screw that. I've done it before, and as much fun as it is, I wanted something else. I recalled driving out to Alberta from Ontario almost two years ago, a trip that I documented and had published in the August 2005 issue of R4NT titled "Kingston To Calgary". Now that was fun. Four days and more stories than I can tell in an hour.
And with that thought, a new roadtrip was at hand. But not just any roadtrip and not a four-day roadtrip like my last one. This time I wanted... bigger. As a result, I came up with The Vicarious Crew. Consisting of myself, my room-mate, and a friend whom I went to college with, the mission of The Vicarious Crew is as follows. Who are we? See who we are for yourself.
We are going to travel in a complete 360 around the United States and document it all online at www.thevcrew.com for everyone to witness.
We want you, our friends, fans and readers, to "live vicariously" through us as we travel all the way down the west coast to Mexico, then across the south to Florida and the Keys, up the east coast to Montreal, and back across the north to finish off back in Calgary. See our complete itinerary for a list of currently set locations.
On the site we'll post updates of stories and places we've seen, photos (of which we'll have a collection growing on our Flickr photoset), reviews, everything we can think of to help you feel like you are right there with us on our journey.
We are currently in the process of making arrangements for this thirty to forty-day long road trip and are also seeking donations from anyone who would be willing to help support us. We're even looking to gain potential sponsorship from any companies and/or websites that would be willing to donate their product(s)/service(s)/financial support to us.
So check it out and don't forget to bookmark the site, even make a donation if you can, because The Vicarious Crew is going to be the site that is number one on your routine of daily visited sites starting June 1.
