Mmm…gamma rays

Scientists have discovered several types of fungi living in the now defunct (but still very very radioactive) Chernobyl reactor. Even more amazing than a life form actually surviving at those radiation levels, is the fungi have managed to use melanin (that skin pigment stuff) to convert gamma radiation into usable energy.
