Bow Hut – Hike

Today Pam and I decided to go do a hike called Bow Hut. It’s just past Lake Louise yet somehow is still in Banff National Park.

What an absolutely fantastic day to get out into the mountains!

The hike itself is a round trip of about 16km and took up about 6 hours, top elevation was at about 8000 feet give or take (since we went past the actual hut and climbed up another little summit).

We simply couldn’t have had a better day out, it was about 15C and sunny pretty much 90% of the time. We ran into several playful Marmots along the way, and even at the summit. The glacier looked incredible, and we also saw a few individuals’ crossing over parts of it.

During our quick peruse of the Hut (which was built in 1989, by volunteers, and the Alpine Club of Canada), we managed to checkout their log book. One entry was describing how they had stayed the night; while the next day, had gone out and summated part of the glacier then telemarked (skied) down it; mind you this entry was signed by a 12 year old boy! Wicked.

All and all an absolutely riveting day, which made me feel tremendous to be alive!
