Got the chance this evening to checkout a group from Vancouver: Loose Change Trio, featuring David Ward.

Good show, a nice mix of soul/blues covers and originals. Definitely some quality to be found here, and David carries and tremendous voice.

David Ward Loose Change Trio (DWLCT) is a swirling torrent of emotionally charged music rooted in soul and drawing heavily upon the blues, funk, rock, and folk music. Inspired by many different artists, bordering many different countries and cultures, David Ward Loose Change Trio is continually evolving all the while maintaining deep roots in soul. Currently, DWLCTš„ôs line-up includes David Ward on vocals and acoustic/electric guitar, who studied voice at the Victoria Conservatory of music, guitar at Vancouver Community College and is a member of the Universal Gospel Choir; Greg Bevis on drums and percussion who studied music at the LA Music Academy in Pasadena under Ralph Humphrey (Frank Zappa) Mike Shapiro (Earth, Wind and Fire) and Jazz legend Joe Porcaro. Greg is currently working towards his BMus in Jazz studies at CAP College in Vancouver; and Sam Shoicett on acoustic/electric bass who has played with diverse artists ranging from El Sur (Pepe Danzaš„ôs samba/south american percussion driven band) to reknowned boogie woogie pianist Kenny š„úBlues Boss" Wayne. The three have been touring in support of David Wardš„ôs independent release of 2006, Never Meant to Know, throughout BC and Alberta, as well as playing in many of BCš„ôs popular music festivals. In the midst of recording their first album as a trio at Mushroom Studios in Vancouver with producer Adam Fulton (Paul McCartney, Terry Clark), DWLCT continues to take their raw energy and sound to the stage with a live show that blends stage theatrics, audience participation and musical jams creating an event that is not to be missed.

You can checkout more from them at their myspace page, and also sample a few of their tracks.
