Google Hot Trends

by MaxPower

In the past I have posted some links to what internet users are searching for using Yahoo. That was because Yahoo puts out these nice press friendly releases which are fodder for blog posting.

Today I came across a somewhat new and somewhat revised service from Google called Google Trends so that you can see the new 'hot' searches. Check it out here

You click on the search item and you can see some highlights of the news articles people may be looking for and then a rating on its "hotness".

If you click that link take into account that it will show May 23rd as a default and as such you'll only get a morning worth of searchs which lead to some weird top ranked searches like: 1. singer irene 2. fellini film 3. monokini designer gernreich 4. goddess of wisdom 5. author bellow - WTF?

Paging back one day to May 22nd and you get searches like 1. dancing with the stars winner 2. joseph lau 3. on the lot 4. this is my now 5. nba lottery 6. nba draft - which is a bit more normal...

The strange searches are explained by google as:

Hot Trends are a reflection of what people are searching for on Google today. Rather than showing the most popular searches overall, which would always be generic terms like "weather", Hot Trends highlights searches that have suddenly gained popularity. Our algorithm analyzes millions of web searches that have been performed on Google and displays those searches that are deviating the most from their historic traffic pattern. The algorithm also filters out spam and removes inappropriate material.

Love this one though - How does a kangaroo keep cool?

And number 91 - Tom Selleck! Yes!
