Ancient Shark Tooth Found in Great Lakes

This is no ordinary shark tooth - it is a tooth from the carcharodon megalodon or "megatooth shark". The shark went extinct 2 million years ago (which is pretty recent in geologic time), was the "apex predator" of the time and reached lengths of 60 feet and weighed in at 40 tons. By comparison a great white shark can reach 20 feet. The megatooth shark ate 1500 lbs of food a day including whales.
The tooth is 3 inches long.
