DemoCampCalgary

I don't know why I've never written about this on here.. but what the heck..

Over the past year or so I've been part of helping organize BarCamp and DemoCamp here in Calgary. Last night was our 10th edition at DemoCamp and it was held at Melrose Cafe (off 17th Ave). There was a terrific showing (probably one of the best yet) and if it wasn't for some internet connection issues it would have gone off without a hitch.

Looker ons..

It™s an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It™s typically a monthly event, and features 4 live demos, followed by discussion and interaction from participants. DemoCamps typically last between 1.5 and 2 hours.

For those that haven't heard of DemoCamp.. It's basically an open event where people volunteer in advance to demo their latest creations. It could be software, hardware, marketing creations, you name it really.. Tonight we had an array of demos from immediately translating IM clients, dental software, self publishing kids books, and a company that optimizes your cell phone bill. Good stuff.

I'd recommend coming down and checking it out sometime if you get the chance. It's a great way to feel the pulse of the city and a fun way to meet new people across various facets of business. In the meantime if you'd like more information checkout barcampcalgary.com.
