Gnarls Barkley v. Violent Femmes
by MaxPower
It started when Gnarls Barkley covered Gone Daddy Gone back in 06.
Gone Daddy Gone, of course, was originally done by the Violent Femmes all the way back in 1982 (it is amazing how many comments on YouTube are still of the "I didn't know this was a cover" variety).
Then Violent Femmes decided to return the favour with a cover of Gnarls Barkley's huge hit Crazy. (Crazy Star Wars themed performance shown here).
The cover, which I think is pretty dope in a chilled-mandolin-and-Theremin-strumming kind of way, is described as:
Violent Femmes™ cover of Gnarls Barkley™s infamous œCrazy” is like nothing you™ve heard from the legendary alt-rock trio before. Their oft-imitated folk-punk sound is flavored with surf-rock guitar and Theremin, creating a tranquility that is somber and otherworldly. Or, in other words... "I might compare it to a calm pond. I caught my reflection in it. And I seemed to be momentarily at peace. This track sounds entirely different in the rain, and supports some intriguing lilypads." -Gnarls Barkley
